How Fodmi works

Four small habits. No calorie counting, no shame.

  1. Step 1

Snap, say or type your meal

Take a photo of your plate, describe it out loud, or search over 2,000 foods. Fodmi picks out the ingredients, including the hidden ones like garlic and onion.

  2. Step 2

    See what’s in it

Each meal gets a simple traffic light across the six FODMAP groups, with the ingredient that tipped it over and a portion that should sit better.

  3. Step 3

    Check in after you eat

A gentle nudge a few hours later asks how the meal sat. One tap for “All good”, or log bloating, gas, cramps and stool type.

  4. Step 4

    Spot your patterns

Over a few weeks Fodmi shows which foods line up with bad days and which are fine for you. Share a PDF report with your doctor or dietitian.

What is a FODMAP?

FODMAPs are short-chain carbohydrates that the small intestine absorbs poorly. Gut bacteria ferment them, which can cause bloating, gas, pain and changes in bowel habits in people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The name stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides And Polyols. A low FODMAP diet cuts them back for a few weeks, then reintroduces them one group at a time to find your personal triggers.

Portion matters: many foods are fine in a small serving and only cause trouble in a bigger one.

The six FODMAP groups

  • FructansWheat, rye, onion, garlic
  • GOSBeans, lentils, chickpeas
  • LactoseMilk, yogurt, soft cheese
  • FructoseHoney, apples, mango
  • SorbitolApples, pears, stone fruit
  • MannitolMushrooms, cauliflower

Questions

What is Fodmi?

Fodmi is an iPhone app for people with IBS or a sensitive gut. You log meals by photo, voice or text, see their estimated FODMAP content, check in on symptoms afterwards, and over time see which foods line up with your bad days.

Is Fodmi medical advice?

No. Fodmi estimates FODMAP content from published food composition data. It is not medical advice and has not been reviewed by a dietitian. Talk to a doctor before changing your diet, and to a dietitian for a guided low FODMAP plan.

Where does the FODMAP data come from?

From published laboratory studies released under open licences (CC BY and CC0), USDA FoodData Central, and national food composition tables from France (CIQUAL), Germany (BLS) and Japan (MEXT). Where a value hasn’t been measured, Fodmi says so instead of guessing.

Can I use Fodmi for SIBO?

A low FODMAP diet is sometimes used alongside SIBO treatment. Fodmi tracks meals and symptoms the same way whatever the cause, but ask your clinician which diet is right for you.

How much does Fodmi cost?

Fodmi is free to download. Full access is a subscription, and the App Store shows the price before you pay. You can cancel any time in your Apple ID settings.

Is Fodmi on Android?

Not yet. Fodmi is available for iPhone.
